Mission:

As part of the UD Trucks Purchasing team, the Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) plays a critical role in facilitating collaboration between suppliers and the Engineering and Production teams.
The SQE is accountable for overall supplier quality performance, ensuring that all supplied components consistently comply with UD Trucks' specifications, legal requirements, and quality standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Sourcing Activities:
    • Organize supplier quality audits to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
    • Conduct product and process benchmarking to select appropriate technologies for new projects.
    • Participate in design reviews to ensure suppliers understand and are capable of meeting specifications.
    • Perform comprehensive risk evaluations based on QDCFCSR criteria and recommend suitable suppliers to the sourcing board for informed decision-making.
  • APQP Activities:
    • Lead APQP reviews between suppliers and the UD Trucks cross-functional team.
    • Actively engage in design reviews and FMEA sessions to identify and mitigate product and process risks.
    • Monitor APQP-related risks to ensure they are effectively and promptly mitigated.
    • Take of APQP deliverables and KPIs, ensuring robust PPAP approvals.
  • Problem Solving:
    • Ensure supplier quality issues are resolved effectively and within agreed timelines.
    • Ensure suppliers implement swift containment actions to prevent production disruptions.
    • Drive comprehensive root cause analysis using quality tools such as FTA, Fishbone diagrams, and 5 Whys.
    • Challenge suppliers to develop robust solutions that prevent issue recurrence.
    • Ensure lessons learned are shared and implemented throughout the supply chain and internally within UD Trucks.
  • Supplier Development:
    • Take full responsibility for supplier quality performance and continuous improvement.
    • Drive supplier improvement program to continuously improve supplier quality performance
    • Closely follow up gaps identified from various audits until closure.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical or related fields.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Quality Tools Proficiency: Hands-on experience with quality management tools such as APQP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, FTA, cause and effect diagrams, and 5 Whys analysis.
  • Work Experience: At least 5 years of experience in supplier quality management or process quality control, specifically in APQP and PPAP within the automotive industry.
  • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with IATF 16949 quality management system requirements and PDCA cycle.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent command of English; Japanese language skills are a plus.
