Title: YC: Process Engineer
UD Trucks is known for our pioneering technologies and products within the commercial automotive industry. The position is to engine the vehicle assembly process to achieve quality targets according to the set UDSA specifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work across task, authority, identity and political boundaries in a boundary-less organisation.
• To design and develop the assembly of jigs and fixtures to improve productivity
• To specify and select the appropriate tools and equipment required per operation.
• To implement specification changes as determined by the design function within UD.
• To launch new models on the production line including project planning, production trials, start of production (SOP) and project reports.
• To ensure that jigs fixtures, tools, material handling equipment and lifting gear conform to occupational health and Safety Act (OHS Act) specifications as well as environmental regulations.
• To ensure that assembly manuals and sprints are updated and maintained on a regular basis.
• To continuously evaluate and analyse the assembly process and implement the necessary changes to improve productivity, quality and safety.
• To continuously perform process audits to establish whether vehicles are assembled to the set specifications and to implement corrective action.
• To determine the parts allocation per workstation to ensure that the line assembly sequence can be executed effectively.
• To specify the production system to internal customers (production and logistics) to direct their daily operations.
• To forecast future projects with estimated costing.
• To justify projects according to financial return, safety, environment and quality.
• Troubleshoot process problems using internal systems.
• Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
• Support the improvement of process yields, through-put, flexibility, productivity and capacity.
• Developing and improving processes and documenting procedures.
• Commissioning tools, equipment, tests and methods.
• Supports decision making processes on the best concepts, practices and procedures
• Compiled training documents
• Support and implement workplace organisation.
• Support the implementation and sustenance of quality management (ISO9001), safety management (ISO45001) and environmental management (ISO14001) systems.
To establish the optimum vehicle assembly sequence in order to improve productivity and quality.
QUALIFICATION:
• B.Eng/BSc/BTech/Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering/Mechatronics (Essential)
EXPERIENCE:
• At least 2 Years vehicle assembly/ vehicle manufacturing experience (Essential) in a process or manufacturing engineering role essential.
• Experience in commercial vehicle assembly will be an added advantage.
• New product introduction experience will be an added advantage.
