The SHE Coordinator will be responsible for implementing, evaluating, and overseeing SHE programmes across UDIS, the Competence Development Centre, the Engineering Workshop, and Contractors. The role will also ensure that the organisation implements, monitors, and complies with all applicable SHE legislative and regulatory requirements, while providing guidance and support to relevant stakeholders.    


Safety:

 

The SHE Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following safety-related activities:

  • Conduct incident and accident investigations for UDIS, the Engineering Workshop, and Competence Development Centre.
  • Identify, evaluate, and continuously assess operational risks across Sales, Competence Development Centre, and Engineering Workshop.
  • Support Competence Development Centre and Engineering Workshop with the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct internal SHE inspections and audits for UDIS and Contractors.
  • Conduct contractor SHE audits (SHE files) and perform project-related site visits.
  • Collaborate with HR, Operations, Maintenance, and other relevant departments to integrate safety into daily operational workflows.
  • Facilitate, maintain, and update the legal training matrix.
  • Facilitate annual emergency evacuation drills, manage the action log, and work closely with the Plant Safety Lead.
  • Provide SHE training and awareness to employees, including:
    • Safety procedures
    • Emergency response
    • Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on safety performance data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct safety inductions for new employees, visitors, and contractors.
  • Proactively advise UDIS, Competence Development Centre, and Engineering Workshop on unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Coordinate the ordering and issuing of PPE to the Plant and UDIS.
  • Facilitate monthly PPE stocktake meetings and keep the Plant Business Controller informed.
  • Drive compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations, and relevant SANS Codes, working closely with the Plant Safety Lead.

 

 

Health:

 

  • Facilitating and monitoring medical evaluations for all employees and maintaining the updated health matrix.
  • Participating in the planning and execution of Wellness Days, in collaboration with the Plant Safety Lead and the planning committee.
  • Supporting occupational health surveys and Health Risk Assessments (HRAs).
  • Managing health-related action logs to ensure closure of findings and continuous improvement

 

 

Environment:

 

  •  Implementing the Environmental Management Plan across Competence Development Centre, Engineering Workshop, and UDIS.
  •  Supporting the implementation and maintenance of environmental management systems in line with ISO 14001 and quality standards aligned to ISO 9001.
  •   Promoting environmental compliance and sustainable practices within operations

 

Qualifications:

 

  • National Diploma in Safety Management, or studying towards or NEBOSH Diploma
  • SAMTRAC, or Certificate
  • Incident Investigation Certificate
  • HIRA
  • ISO 14001& 9001 certificates

 

 

Job Experience:

 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA)
  • Incident investigation methods (e.g., 5 Whys, RCA)
  • Experience in the automotive sector an added advantage.
  • Audits and inspections.
