Role Description and Responsibilities
Department Overview
The Workshop and Test Track department, based in Chennai, requires frequent travel between various test tracks across India. The facility at GARC-Client workshop is a pit workshop located in Chennai, linked to the Development Centre in the UDTIPL factory in Bangalore. This connection enables test activities related to test tracks throughout India.
Role Summary
We are seeking a Workshop Facility Lead to plan and support the execution of workshop administration deliveries, working closely with the Workshop Manager. The Workshop Facility Lead will facilitate operations at the GARC-Client workshop, collaborate with the Development Centre, and also facilitate test center across multiple locations.
Facility and Test Support Center
The Test Support Center (TSC), sub function within the Development Centre, is part of the R&D function and manages test facilities. The facility is supported by the client Workshop operated by the Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC). TSC provides retro fitment, test iteration, and updates of test objects in partnership with product build and engineering departments. GARC is a state-of-the-art test center established by the Ministry of Heavy Industries and PE, Government of India, where UDTIPL conducts tests for UD Trucks.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the single point of contact for the GARC Authority front desk, supporting test track and rig operations.
- Own the client workshop operation, acting as a role model and leading the site from the front.
- Establish and maintain support with other test track facilities across India to prevent interruptions in planned activities.
- Act as the UD asset owner and provide investment support at the site.
- Coordinate facility administration, including EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) and other administrative tasks.
- Initiate purchase requests for consumables.
- Support the Workshop Operation team (Fleet and Project) with accurate projections for test track accounting and bought services to complete the Test Requirement Analysis process.
- Represent the function in workshop management to secure management goals and ensure execution of deliverables with full QDCF (Quality, Delivery, Cost, Flexibility) through resource planning and allocation.
- Implement controls and measures at the site.
- Co-ordinate concern/challenges of site with IPS, Admin, IT
Minimum Qualifications
- University graduate or equivalent degree with over 10 years of experience, plus four years of relevant knowledge to lead workshop administration tasks.
- Expertise in test management and execution.
- Holistic perspective on end-to-end R&D workshop activities.
- Strong communication skills, fluent in English.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
