Group Manager – Front Offices & Application Engineering

Front Offices & Application Engineering is a function within Vehicle Engineering in UD Trucks Technology and locally represented in Bangalore, Bangkok, Pretoria and Dubai. Its primary mission is from a Product development perspective to support in further developing business profitability by providing Application Engineering support to enable offers towards special purpose vehicles for UD Trucks International markets.

The teams mission is also to provide engineering support through front offices to manufacturing plants (CBU/CKD) to enable smoother production of vehicles in the production line. The group leads engineering activities to support Customer adaptations and Aftermarket modifications through Argus. It is also responsible to support Bodybuilders for proper superstructure integration and responsible for BBI. The team also supports field quality in local markets by GEMBA activities, local testing & homologation support.
The position is a management position within Product Development where he or she is accountable from a Product development perspective to support in further developing business & volume expansion through Application Engineering to enable offers towards special purpose vehicles for UD Trucks International markets.

  • The Group Manager – Front Offices & Application Engineering reports to Director - Projects & Vehicle Integration, Vehicle Engineering UD Trucks India.
  • The Group Manager – Front Offices & Application Engineering leads a group consisting of Complete Vehicle Leaders, Engineers and Partner Leaders to deliver the scope encompassed above.
  • The Group Manager – Front Offices & Application Engineering works in close cooperation with cross functional stakeholders within UD Technology, Sales, Operations and Purchasing delivering according to project commitments.
  • The team represents Technology as a function in extended Country Management Teams of South Africa, Hub MEENA & Thailand by the respective Front Office Leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a engineering team constituting of Engineers, Complete Vehicle Leaders in Bangalore, Bangkok, Pretoria and Dubai.
  • Be a member of the VE Management team in Bangalore.
  • Lead Application Engineering to support Special purpose Vehicles development and provide inputs to QUEST / PCT to optimize the project scope and cost.
  • Develop and work with external partners to provide solutions to Sales in local markets. These partnerships are including wide scale engineering & manufacturing support.
  • Contribute to the UD International product offer optimization & enhancement in connection with Quester, Croner & Kuzer.
  • To establish, maintain and control department budget in order to meet the yearly target.
  • To manage and optimize resources according to time and activity plans.
  • To secure that the employees have necessary competence by establishing a competence plan for the group.
  • To carry out Performance Management reviews with direct reporting employees.
  • To secure Management System activities in the scope of the department.
  • To be a bridge for communication, assuring top-down and bottom-up distribution of information.

Authorities:

  • Assign resources to respective projects and maintenance activities,to secure deliveries of the project portfolio
  • Approve Technology related expenses and investments in local sites (THA/SAF/MEENA/BLR)
  • Lead and develop the team within Front Offices & Application Engineering

Essential skills and needed experience:

  • MSc Degree in Engineering (equivalent to Engineering Degree in India)
  • Extensive product and market knowledge with good understanding of customer applications and special purpose vehicle requirements
  • Solid & vast experience in Product development from a truck domain perspective
  • Line management experience with experience of leading leaders is preferred
